Pastor’s Message

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

Peace + to you in Jesus Christ, the Light of the world

Sometimes the darkness seems just to get thicker.

It could be your own personal darkness, of family difficulties, or of financial hardship, or of grief, or of guilt that won’t go away.  Whatever it is, it makes it hard to see the light of day.  Some days even the daylight outside seems to be mocking us in our darkness.

It could be the darkness of this world, with conflict bringing storm clouds across the nations, darkness we perhaps thought would not happen any more in our ‘enlightened’ world.

Here’s the bad news.  It will likely get darker.  The world is broken apart by sin, my sin, our sin, the sin of the oppressors and the sin of everyday people.  The Bible shows us how the darkness deepens in this world, from Genesis 3 to Revelation.

Here’s the Good News.  Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, came right into the middle of the darkness, in the fullness of time, in a time as dark as ours.  He came to bear the sin of the world, to die with it on the darkest day there ever was when the Living God paid for our death with His death.

Jesus rose from the dead.  Jesus rose from the dead.  He is living, now, not just far away in the light of heaven, but also here among us through His Word and His Sacramental Gifts.  No matter how dark it gets, the Light of Christ still shines, here, now, and forever.  Join us here, to hear Jesus, to receive His light that the darkness cannot overcome.

The darkness deepens, Lord with me abide

In Jesus, the Light of the world,
